The fastest way to Koh Phangan ;-)

Buy a ticket to Bangkok (BKK) and a continuing flight ticket with Bangkok Airways to Ko Samui.
In Samui buy at the counter next to the bagage arrival, a ticket for the minibus to the next leaving boat to Ko Phangan, from everywhere in EU in 24 hours possible, have a good trip.

Cheaper with Thai Airways to Suratthani and then with the bus and boat to Ko Phangan.

NEW: Nok Air fly to Nakorn Sri Thamarat and then with the minibus to the pier in Donsak. Actually nearer to the pier then the Suratthani Airport.
In Donsak the new line from Lomprayah to Samui-Ko Phangan is open

From everywhere around the island you will find Pickups, which go each and every day to Thongsala (pier and main village).

When arriving
At the pier you will find a lot of pickups. The Thais (guides) try to catch you for their bungalow villages (commission). It does not matter where you landing. It's beautiful everywhere. There is one watch out only! Remember Hadrin. This place is THEE place at Koh Phangan since its start of the now famous fullmoon party in the early 80th. So if you like the real hideaway, then it is definitely the wrong place. Not so for the the raver party people and the youth plenty of live, thurst for fun and joy.

Full Moon Party (hadrin)

There is nothing so famous and special like this monthly revenue of the full moon party at Hadrin. A Peninsula at the east coast, with a small lake in the middle. One beach for the party and the daily sunrise and one beach for a perfect sunset. Just a small walk. Hadrin is very busy in the way of youngsters. Daytime beach life and night time is Party time.

You can come along alone, you never alone, if you don't want ;-). From all over the planet you will find nice people there. Couples can enjoy a wonderful relaxing holiday. But the relaxing places are NOT in Hadrin (it's not true but you know what I mean)...... Every bungalow resort provides Taxis to Hadrin, when the party fevers swaps over the whole island. This means towards the full moon (you never miss full moon on Koh Phangan) more people means better business for the Thais. Means a bigger smile :-)). The arriving boats are full before, and by the departure, after the famous Full Moon Party. I prefer the aftertime. But this comes with the years visiting this island next to Koh Samui.
All other places are mostly very quiet.

Take the Night Train (Sleeper with Fan) to Suratthani. You can get Joint Tickets until Koh Phangan. The main provider is always Songserm. You can get joint tickets via Suratthani or via Chumpon. You may also stop in Chumpon and take the way with the boat over Koh Tao instead to go down to Surat and taking the boat over Koh Samui (through Anthong Marine National Park) to Koh Phangan. Because you have to come to Koh Phangan for a real hideaway anyway. Koh Tao is very small and often full, nice to snorkel. Koh Samui is very beautiful and mellow. Good for to buy a western magazine or good bread, bud already very simple-minded tourist, means 08/15. Anyway, Koh Samui is worth a trip and the food in the resorts is delicious. You will still find very special places all over the island. I still love it. In Koh Samui the Tourist comes allready in group tours. Not so in Koh Phangan. Everybody find his way allone.

By Plain (the easy way)

Take a Taxi to the Domestic Airport (Tickets are available, better buy at Khaosan or so.) Bangkok Airways fly's almost every hour to Koh Samui. The flight takes 1 h and 10 min, or 50 min. with a Jet. Koh Samui Airport is in my opinion the nicest Airport in the world.

By Aircon Bus (the budget way)

Just book and buy a joint ticket (not to smoke) to Koh Phangan. Departure mostly in the evening. They are collecting travelers with mini bus from all over the city and the bus leave outside somewhere. In Suratthani, they bring you straight to the Pier, to the Boat (still the same company). Leaving BKK 18:00 h arriving Koh Phangan next day about 12:30.

FROM THE SOUTH
A good start from the south is PENANG (Malaysia) if you traveling from the south Oz or so ;-)) get your Minibus ticket there!

In Penang you find all the Booking Shops for Koh Phangan and all other Places. With Mini Bus you go to the "Jail like"  (malay side)  the Border Malasya/Thailand at Pedang Besar in Had Yai you will change the Mini Bus and heading for Suratthani. When you leave early morning in Penang you will catch the evening boat to Koh Phangan. Joint Tickets available!

New Visa restriction: You can only doing the Visa-Border-Run 3 times to get a free month visa. After that you have to be out of country for 6 month to get the sam possibility again. Otherwise you need to apply for a normal (2 month) Tourist-Visa somewhere outside of Thailand. Penang, Kota Baru for Malaysia (where they asked for a flight out of Thailand to your country and even a hotel confirmation earlier this year)! But this ha changed after a lot of problems with Tourist in Penang, and it is said that they went back to normal. For this please check with

"THAI-VISA" the Web site and Forum for ex pats here in Thailand. Always "up to date" regarding the visa situation in Thailand. Good place for Visa is Vientiane too. The Cambodia Visa Run is not in my experiences yet. But seem s to be ok and fast. People living in Bangkok and Pattaya area using this one.

Ranong Border Visa Run is a fast one but the guy's (Immigration) on the other side in Burma (Myanmar) are completely nut's. If your Dollar bill is not absolutely new they refuse it. Idiots I tell you. Poor country!!

New short Border Visa Run now to the south in KHUANDON (near Hat Yai). Very nice small border to Malaysia. Leaving with the first Car Ferry, driving with a private car to the border and back. Catch the last Ferry at 17:00 p.m. (sometimes even possible to get the one at 4 o'clock) and the same day you are back "home" on Ko Phangan. Good drive on highway only. Last 1/2 through the hills and jungle near Malaysia.
