Interview with the author, D.C. Gallin by “Ham” of: www.hadrin.com

I asked D.C.Gallin why her family had chosen the island for the release of Woman in the Sky, an 'acid laced, sexed -up stream of consciousness' set in London's underground party scene. So, why Ko Phangan?
"It was an easy choice really. It was either going to be Ibiza or Koh Phangan. Both islands are small and feel personal. They are so cosmopolitan it’s possible to create a global word of mouth buzz. We love it here because it’s so relaxed. We couldn’t have chosen a better place!
Have you been to Koh Phangan before?
"Yes, I was here during my gap year in '89. Hadrin was only reachable by boat. I can remember about 40 people, body painted to the max, hopping around a ghetto blaster under the full moon.”
What makes you think party lovers are also reading?
"People who come to Ko Phangan often seem to be on the verge of changing their lives. So many readers who buy the book have just given up their jobs or are about to do something else. Globetrotters read, and you'd be amazed how many positive and supportive reactions we get towards this project. The locals have been so welcoming as well; local businesses are happy to display the poster and distribute the book.
I guess everybody wants to write a book one day?
"Partly. They are also curious and I find it quite strange how no-one has really described the party scene in fiction yet. I know there are a lot of books about people losing it on illegal substances but I've tried to describe the euphoria of the dancefloor, the reactionary reaction of 'the system' to our peaceful humanitarian movement."
It's a novel about 'the transforming power of art' what do you mean by that?
"The main character finds her strength through her art. It frees her of material worries and helps her to get through tough times. You could also say that music is the great transformer: maybe the dancefloor is the tool for a peaceful, global society. I know it sounds like a dream, but mobile phones were the stuff of science fiction not long ago...”
I saw on your blog that one customer bought four more copies after having read hers. How does that make you feel?
It's such a buzz to see people reading a book you've worked on for five years while getting up at four in the morning to make the time for it. A quintuple customer is nothing short of a miracle! I love meeting the people who are going to read it and I'm sure some will be friends for life.
Any book launches and signings on the agenda?
There will be a Jumunjy (www.south-east asia.net) party and dates for signings on the island will be published on the blog and posters and this site.
Is it true that those who buy the book are invited to ‘The Global Chai Garden’ (facebook group) the European launch party on the full moon weekend July 22-25-2010?
"Yes. It will be held in the Alpujarras, one of Southern Europe's hotspots for alternative living."
